Membrane Filter Services

Discover the savings with reprocessable Point of Use Filters (POU)

Specialists in Healthcare Water Management

As specialists in healthcare water management, HBE has added an important element to their range of services which provides health trusts with a cost saving alternative to disposable POU filters.

HBE has joined forces with Aqua free Membrane Technologies GmbH, who produce a range of award winning disposable and reusable POU membrane filters based on hollow fibre membranes.

Combining the concept of reusable or reprocessable membrane filter technology with HBE’s trusted service levels creates a unique new service specifically designed to suit the needs of the healthcare sector.

Imagine a service where the highest quality filters are installed and tested by HBE’s qualified technicians to meet the high standards required to keep your vulnerable patients safe. HBE technicians then change the reusable filters at the correct intervals for your environment* during routine visits, thus providing you with a level of continuous protection you can rely on. Finally, HBE returns your used filters to the specialist cleaning unit for reprocessing.

Overall, the whole process is significantly more cost effective than simply replacing disposable POU filters. From end to end, this unique service is delivered by HBE’s highly trained and experienced technicians, to give you complete peace of mind

Why use Aqua free point of Use Membrane Filters?

The Aqua Free product range incorporates award winning Membrane filters that use hollow fibre technology. The bacteria retention of the hollow fibre membrane filter is determined by the pore size (0.2 µm) of the membrane. The membrane of the Germlyser® filter delivers a log-7 reduction of bacteria tested with Brevundimonas diminuta.

Depending on the type, hollow fibre membrane filters contain between 2,000 up to 4,000 micro tubes. These so-called hollow fibres are encased with potting on both ends so that only the openings are accessible. Water is forced into the hollow fibres and is filtered by the pores of these fibres. At the same time the chemical condition of the water is not changed, so this technology is very stable and also enables the defined cleaning and reprocessing of the filter.

These are award winning filters that you can trust. Both the filters and the technology behind it have been awarded the Innovation Prize 2002 of the City of Hamburg and funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (German Federal Environmental Foundation).

Reprocessing technology that saves you money

Aqua free filters can be reprocessed up to 50 times. Indeed, the patented technology in Aqua free’s construction is the only reusable POU membrane filter fulfilling the requirements of the Robert Koch Institute for reprocessing of medical devices. Plus, due to their antimicrobial properties, the Aqua free membrane filter has a much longer service life than other POU filters commonly available.

Both these factors support the cost effective solution that HBE can provide to the healthcare sector.

In summary, the HBE Filter Membrane Service provides you with:

There are several products to meet your specific needs in the healthcare environment, specifically for:

There is also a range of products for general water hygiene.

Here are some further details about Filter Membranes for water taps and showers:

The point-of-use hollow fibre membrane filter Germlyser® HS is a reprocessable medical device. By the 0.2 µm hollow fibre membrane, all water bacteria are retained. The chemical composition of the water is not altered by the filtration method. The housing of Germlyser® HS is made up of plastic including an additive with special bacteriostic properties. This prevents a growth of bacteria which may reach the filter through splash water or contact (retrograde contamination).

The additive in plastic is approved for food and medical devices. In addition, the water outlet of the Gemylser® HS consists of silver providing an increaded protection againt bacteria colonisation at the point-of-use.

With its unique features, the Germlyser® HS delivers sterile water in constant high flow rates over the entire operating time and provides an effective protection for immune-deficient patients against nosocomial infections caused by water associated bacteria.

  • Proven protection against Legionella and pseudomonads
  • Minimum flow rate: 6 l/min at 5 bar, at 25 °C
  • Size: L 77 mm x Ø 55 mm
  • Adaptation: Easy with quick-release coupling
  • Operating time: 4 Weeks*
  • Medical device in accordance with 93/42/EEC

The Germlyser® A is a reprocessable point-of-use hollow fibre membrane filter which is developed for the specific applications in intensive care units/high-risk areas. Because of the complete integration of the membrane filter in the water tap fitting, the utility height between fitting and base of the washbasin is not restricted. This makes filling the wash bowls easier for the nursing staff and reduces the risk of retrograde contamination through water splashes or body contact.

The filter housing, made up of plastic including an additive with special bacteriostatic properties along with the silver filter outlet, provides an additional protection against bacteria colonisation on the filter. The used additive in plastic is approved for food and medical devices.

With its unique features, the Germlyser® A delivers sterile water in constant high flow rates over the entire operating time and provides an effective protection for high-risk-/intensive patients against nosocomial infections by water associated bacteria.

  • Proven protection against Legionella and pseudomonads
  • Size: L 108 mm x Ø 43 mm
  • Minimum flow rate: 6 l/min at 5 bar, at 25 °C
  • Adaptation: Easy with quick-release coupling
  • Operating time: 8 weeks
  • Medical device in accordance with 93/42/EEC

The point-of-use hollow fibre membrane filter Germlyser® D is a reprocessable medical device. By the 0.2 µm hollow fibre membrane, all water bacteria are retained. The chemical composition of the water is not altered by the filtration method. The housing of Germlyser® D is made

The housing of Germylser® D is made up of plastic including an additive with special bacteriostic properties. This prevents a growth of bacteria which may reach the filter through splash water or contact (retrograde contamination). The used additive in plastic is approved for food and medical devices.

In addition, the water outlet (shower rosette) of the Gemylser® D consists of silver providing an increaded protection againt bacteria colonisation at the point-of-use.

With its unique features, the Germlyser® D delivers sterile water in constant high flow rates over the entire operating time and provides an effective protection for immune-deficient patients against nosocomial infections caused by water associated bacteria.

  • Proven protection against Legionella and pseudomonads
  • Minimum flow capacity: 12 l/min at 5 bar, at 25 °C
  • Size: L 206 mm x Ø 43 mm
  • Adaptation: Easy with quick-release coupling
  • Operating time: 4 Weeks*
  • Medical product in accordance with 93/42/EEC

* The operating time can be increased up to 8 weeks, if sufficient hygiene measures (e.g. central filtration) exists and a corresponding hygiene plan is carried out and implemented. We recommend the monitoring by corresponding clinical, microbiological examinations.

The Germlyser® AM is a reprocessable point-of-use hollow fibre membrane filter that is developed special for the care of intensive patients, which is for the single-use and patient-related application.

With the 0.2 µm hollow fibre membrane, all water bacteria are retained. The chemical composition of the water is not altered by the filtration method. The housing of Germlyser® AM is made up of plastic including an additive with special bacteriostic properties. This prevents a growth of bacteria which may reach the filter through water splashes or contact (retrograde contamination). The additive within the plastic is approved for food and medical devices.

Based on its product features, the Germlyser® AM provides an effective protection for immune-deficient patients against nosocomial infections caused by water associated bacteria.

  • Proven protection against Legionella and pseudomonads
  • Flow rate: Adjustable up to 5 l/min, in 25 °C
  • Size: L113 mm x Ø 43 mm
  • Adaptation: Easy with quick-release coupling
  • Operating time depending on application
