A County Tyrone tyre company has been fined for asbestos management failings when employees were likely to have been exposed to asbestos fibres during building works.

The case arose from a Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) investigation into an incident when the tyre company installed a new fire alarm system at its premises.

HSENI’s investigation found that there was no asbestos management plan for the premises, and as a result, information on the location, type and condition of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) was not available.

The company was fined £6,000 plus costs of £960 for failing to protect employees from exposure to asbestos.
