A dry ski slope in Sunderland has installed a new water system after it was temporarily closed in June after the discovery of consistently higher levels of legionella bacteria during routine monitoring of its water system.
The issues identified at this complex highlight the importance of routine monitoring of water systems. It was only through careful monitoring that the need for remedial actions and the eventual replacement of the water system were identified.
With the increased instances of Legionella outbreaks seen throughout Scotland earlier this year and then another outbreak in Basildon Hospital, the message is finally getting through that organisations cannot pay lip service to their compliance requirements. It is only through a thorough, routine maintenance schedule that issues can be identified and rectified before a disaster occurs when someone falls ill and your organisation is found liable.
If you are the responsible person within your organisation, we would be delighted to answer any concerns or questions you may have about your current legionella control system. To speak to one of our consultants, call your local HBE office or email firstname.lastname@example.org
